Italy: Patty Pravo - Se Perdo Te (1968)

from the previous post...

Patty Pravo has been featured on many Italian television programmes. In 1970 Pravo hosted her own programme called Bravo Pravo, broadcasted on French TV, and in 1978 appeared in highly controversial Italian TV show, Stryx, where she wore provocative clothing which attracted much attention. She became a symbol for women of the 1960s, exemplifying their evolution from more established conservative roles.

In 1994 she travelled to China to record her album "Ideogrammi". In 1995 returned to Italy and re-emerged in 1997 with the #1 hit "E Dimmi Che Non Vuoi Morire".

Her last Italian top 10 album has been her 2004 set "Nic-Unic" (that year Pravo released four albums). In 2007 she released a tribute album for Dalida, entitled "Spero Che Ti Piaccia...Pour Toi". Pravo has taken part in the Sanremo Music Festival seven times...

"Se Perdo Te" was another big hit for Patty Pravo. Just imagine... 42 years ago!... Enjoy the video!

Italy: Patty Pravo - La Bambola (1968)

Staying in Italy, I wanted to present another artist ...

Patty Pravo (born Nicoletta Strambelli, 9 April 1948, Venice, Italy) is an Italian singer. She studied at the conservatory institute of Benedetto Marcello and had an acquaintance of the American poet Ezra Pound and Angelo Roncalli (Pope John XXIII). At the age of fifteen, she left home to live in London and then Rome where she began her career singing in the Piper Club. In 1966 she made her first single, "Ragazzo Triste", the Italian version of the song "But You're Mine" by Sonny & Cher. It was the first pop song broadcast on Vatican Radio.

Pravo followed that by recording numerous songs, the most popular being "Qui E La", "Se Perdo Te" 1967, "La Bambola" 1968, "Sentimento" 1968, "Il Paradiso" 1969, "La Solitudine", "Pazza Idea" 1973 and "Pensiero Stupendo" 1978 (second part in the next post)...

"La Bambola" sold over one million copies by the end of 1968, and was awarded a gold disc. Do you want to know why this song sold so much? Just see the video!

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

Every time we want to refer to Jazz, we ought to think about Miles Davis. Great artist, without doubt, he was a pioneer! Many of the albums that he released, they played a remarkable role in the jazz field.

One of these wonderful albums is "Bitches Brew". It's a studio double album, released in April 1970 on Columbia Records. The album continued Davis' experimentation with electric instruments previously featured on his critically acclaimed "In a Silent Way" album. With the use of these instruments, such as the electric piano and guitar, Davis rejected traditional jazz rhythms in favor of a looser, rock influenced improvisational style.

Bitches Brew was Davis' first gold record, selling more than half a million copies. Upon release, it received a mixed response, due to the album's unconventional style and revolutionary sound. Later, "Bitches Brew" gained recognition as one of jazz's greatest albums and a progenitor of the jazz rock genre, as well as a major influence on rock and funk musicians. In 1998, Columbia Records released "The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions", a four disc box set that included the original album as well as the studio sessions through February 1970.

Recording sessions took place at Columbia's 30th Street Studio over the course of three days in August 1969. Despite his reputation as a "cool", melodic improviser, much of Davis's playing on this album is aggressive and explosive, often playing fast runs and venturing into the upper register of the trumpet. His closing solo on "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down" is particularly noteworthy in this regard. Davis composed most of the music on the album. The two important exceptions were the complex "Pharaoh's Dance" (composed by Joe Zawinul) and the ballad "Sanctuary" (composed by Wayne Shorter)...
