Manu Chao - Mentira

Manu Chao (born Jose Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao on June 21, 1961), is a French singer of Spanish origin (Basque and Galician). He sings in French, Spanish, English, Galician, Arabic and Portuguese and occasionally in other languages.

Chao began his musical career in Paris, busking and playing with groups such as "Hot Pants Αnd Los Carayos", which combined a variety of languages and musical styles. With friends and his brother Antoine Chao, he founded the band "Mano Negra" in 1987, achieving considerable success, particularly in Europe. He became a solo artist after its breakup in 1995, and since then tours regularly with his live band, "Radio Bemba".

Manu Chao sings in French, Spanish, Galician, Portuguese, Arabic, English and Wolof, often mixing several languages in the same song. His music has many influences, as punk, rock, French chanson, Iberoamerican salsa, reggae, ska, and Algerian rai. These influences were obtained from immigrants in France, his Iberian connections, and foremost his travels in Mesoamerica as a nomad following the disbanding of Mano Negra. Many of Chao's lyrics talk about immigration, love, living in ghettos and drugs, and often carry a left-wing message...

We 'll continue with the same artist in the next post. For the time being we have a very nice audio of him which is entitled "Mentira". It belongs to the album "Clandestino" (the cover is in the photo)...

dear Diatton i am so glad you know & like Manu Chao, he's very popular in Mexico, i started listening to Manu Negra a while ago, but i think Manu Chao is even better for the latin crowds, he's a fantastic performer too, i saw him in concert here in San Diego and he played for 3 hours!! while he was singing, jumping, and being the happiest man on Earth

this song and all his lyrics are very political too, this song Mentira, Mentira means Lie in Spanish, very good stuff!

thank you for sharing him

Dear Berenice, it was another comment of yours which made me glad. This artist have been in my musical preferences since 1998 when he released "Clandestino". I have also seen him one time in a short Greek TV tribute but i have read too much for him in the net (about his lyrics a.o.). Finally, i do like him! He is nearly 50 years old but he acts like he is very very young! Reading also your comment, i think that you were very lucky the time you saw him in a concert. Did he really was there for 3 entire hours? Oh, i have never been in my life in a concert with such a duration!

Many many thanks for your comments you write me in my blog, dear Berenice. I enjoy our communication so far...
