Craig Armstrong & Elizabeth Frazer - This Love

Massive Attack released Armstrong's solo debut, "The Space Between Us", in 1998. The album didn't prove to be as popular as expected, but it nonetheless increased Armstrong's reputation as a noteworthy producer. During this same late-'90s era, Armstrong continued working on soundtrack projects, which remained his most acclaimed work. His work for Jake Scott's debut film, "Plunkett & Macleane", was perhaps his most visible work, being released by "Astralwerks" in the States (as had "The Space Between Us" a year earlier).

However, he worked on soundtracks for much more successful films such as "Mission Impossible" 1996, "Romeo & Juliet" 1998, "Cruel Intentions" 1999 and, perhaps his most celebrated soundtrack work, "Moulin Rouge" 2001. Following the success of "Moulin Rouge", and its second volume, Armstrong returned in 2002 with his second non-soundtrack full-length effort, "As if To Nothing", which boasted a new version of U2's "Stay (Faraway, So Close)". In 2004, he provided the score for the Ray Charles biopic "Ray", and in 2005, an anthology of his film work was released.

For the second and also the last part of the short tribute to Graig Armstrong, we have a nice song again which is entitled "This Love" (both songs belong to the album "The Space Between Us" which is on the post's photo). Elizabeth Frazer (do you remember Cocteau Twins?) is on vocals!

Craig Armstrong - Rise

Born in Scotland (1959 in Glasgow), Craig Armstrong began his production career in the early '90s. He composed music for several BBC and STV productions during this time, but his big break came with the Scottish pop trio "Big Dish".

Armstrong co-wrote three songs on the trio's "Satellites" album, released in 1991, and also provided string arrangements for the album.

Three years later, in 1994, Armstrong worked with renowned trip-hop group "Massive Attack" on its genre-defining Protection album. This association with Massive Attack would pay dividends a few years later when the group released Armstrong's debut full-length album on its Melankolic label.

By the end of the '90s, Armstrong had collaborated with such big-name artists as U2, Madonna, Hole, the Spice Girls, the London Suede, and Tina Turner, in addition to many other lesser-known artists.

We will continue with the same artist in the next post. For the time being we are listening a very nice audio. It has the title "Rise". Enjoy!

Rob Dougan - Clubbed To Death (Matrix)

Rob Dougan, also known as Rob D (born 1969 Sydney, Australia), is a genre-blending music composer. Mixing elements of orchestral music, trip hop, and bluesy vocals, his work is tangentially relatable to electronic music. He was known primarily for his breakthrough 1995 single "Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino Variation)", popularised by 1999's "The Matrix" soundtrack. "Clubbed to Death" was released seven years after "Furious Angels" (1992) which was his debut album.

"Clubbed To Death" was really a smash hit for the artist. You may admire its sound and melody in the following audio. We will continue with Rod Dougan in the next post...

Georg Friedrich Handel - Water Music, Suite 1 in F Major, Alegro Moderato

Handel's compositions include 42 operas, 29 oratorios, more than 120 cantatas, trios and duets, numerous arias, chamber music, a large number of ecumenical pieces, odes and serenatas, and 16 organ concerts. His compositions include works such as "Messiah", "Water Music", "Music For The Royal Fireworks", The Organ Concert "The Cuckoo And The Nightingale", The Suite "The Harmonious Blacksmith" a.o.

Handel introduced various previously uncommon musical instruments in his works: the viola d'amore and violetta marina (Orlando), the lute (Ode for St. Cecilia's Day), three trombones (Saul), clarinets or small high cornets (Tamerlano), theorbo, horn (Water Music), lyrichord, double bassoon, viola da gamba, bell chimes, positive organ, and harp (Giulio Cesare, Alexander's Feast).

The following audio is the last part of the sort tribute to this great composer. Its full title is: "Water Music, Suite 1 In F Major, Alegro Moderato"...

Georg Friedrich Handel - Water Music, Suite 1 In F Major, Tempo Di Minuetto

Georg Friedrich Handel (23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759)

George Frideric Handel (in english) was a German-British Baroque composer. He is famous for his operas, oratorios, and concertos. Handel was born in Germany in the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti. He received critical musical training in Italy before settling in London and becoming naturalised British. He was strongly influenced by the techniques of the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the middle-German polyphonic Choral tradition. Handel's music was well-known to many composers, including Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.

"Water Music" was a remarkable work for this great composer. From this composition, i choosed "Suite 1 In F Major", and especially 2 parts. Tonight we 'll listen the first part which is entitled "Tempo Di Minuetto" and in the next post we 'll listen the second one with the title "Alegro Moderato"... I hope you 'll enjoy them both!

A Blog Needs More Than Its Owner's Inspiration

A blog can't stand only by its owner's inspiration. It has also the need of some "outside" help. What do i mean by that? Taking my blog as an example, i want to say that the following links are very useful...
